Chevrolet Blue Devil to be called ‘ZR1’

According to MotorTrend, when the Chevrolet “Blue Devil” is officially unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, it will be called ‘ZR1.’ Chevrolet first used the ZR1 name in the 1971 model year that produced 370 horsepower. The badge was then revived in 1990.

Whatever it’s called, when the care debuts at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show it will carry a supercharged version of the 6.2 liter small block V8 engine that is found in the 2008 Corvette.

The car will go on sale late next year as a 2009 model. Pricing is expected to be much higher than the 505 horsepower Z06. GM has considered names such as the Z07 and the SS. The company has never confirmed nor denied rumors that “ZR” stands for “Zora’s Racer.”
