Fiat considering VW and Toyota small car rival

Both Volkswagen and Toyota will be unveiling concept versions of their small micro cars at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. Italian automaker Fiat is considering to launch a city car as well to rival the two minis from Volkswagen and Toyota.

While Fiat is not going to reveal a full concept version at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it will unveil a 900cc two-cylinder engine that produces 65 horsepower. That engine could power Fiat’s future city car.

Volkswagen will be producing two different models of the small car for two different markets. For Western Europe, the car will be priced in the region of 8,000 euros, while for emerging markets the base model of the car will be priced between 5,000 to 7,000 euros. There have been no official details on Toyota’s mini car.
