As we reported yesterday, Ford is planning to unveil a small concept car at Frankfurt in September that will preview the next-generation Ford Fiesta. As you can see from these sketches released by Ford, the next Ford Fiesta will adopt a much sleeker and aggressive look.
The concept, which is described as “hinting at a future small European Ford,” seems to be inspired by the Ford Kuga SUV as well as the Ford Mondeo. Ford points out that the concept will also be the basis for other small Fords in the future, such as the next Ford Ka.
The project has been overseen by Ford’s European design director, Martin Smith, who has taken Ford’s ‘kinetic design’ into a small car for the first time.
The next-generation Fiesta is also expected to make it over to U.S. shores unless plans change. Ford officials have previously confirmed a United States debut in 2009.
Martin Smith, Ford”s design chief of Europe said that the new Fiesta will look almost exactly the same in the US as it will in Europe with minor engineering changes that will be necessary to federalize it in the US.
