Ford to unveil Fiesta Concept at Frankfurt? Coming to U.S. in 2009

The folks over at CarScoop claim that they have insider information that Ford is planning on unveiling a city-car concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September that will preview the next-generation Ford Fiesta.

They say that the city-car concept is inspired by the Ford Kuga SUV as well as the Ford Mondeo. Their source says that we should expect sketches of the city-car sometime later this week or early next week.

The next-generation Ford Fiesta will share the platform form the Mazda2. It is expected to make its production debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

The next-generation Fiesta is also expected to make it over to U.S. shores unless plans change. Ford officials have previously confirmed a United States debut in 2009.

Martin Smith, Ford”s design chief of Europe said that the new Fiesta will look almost exactly the same in the US as it will in Europe with minor engineering changes that will be necessary to federalize it in the US.
