Audi downsizes with 1.4 liter TFSI – 43.5mpg

The 1.4 liter TFSI turbo engine found in the Volkswagen Golf has found its way under the hood of the Audi A3. The 1.4 liter TFSI will replace the 1.6 liter as Audi moves to meet the new emissions standards.

But don’t worry guys; performance is not compromised. While the engine is more efficient than the outgoing 1.6, the 1.4 liter TFSI turbo produces an additional 10 horsepower than the 1.6, a total of 123. The engine also adds an extra torque of 33 lb-ft.

Although the 0-62 mph time has dropped by over a second, CO2 output is only 154 g/km while fuel economy rises to 43.5mpg.

The Audi A3 1.4 liter TFSI goes on sale in October with prices beginning at £16,365 for the A3 1.4 TFSI and £16,865 for the A3 Sportback. We’re guessing we should get the engine in the U.S. within two years.
