As reported in May, Mercedes-Benz is working on developing a supercar without the help of McLaren. Expected to be a fighter to the 420 horsepower Audi R8, the car will be built in partnership with HWA AG, its official DTM race car developer.

So far we know that the Mercedes SLC will be powered by a 6.2 liter AMG V8 engine producing 500 horsepower. If necessary Mercedes may even add a twin-turbo variant developing 700 horsepower.

The Mercedes SLC is expected to be more compact and lighter than the McLaren SLR and could use parts from the upcoming SL AMG Black Series. The super car is expected to carry a $200,000 price tag with production limited to 500 units.
