Ford to offer gasoline engines that will deliver diesel-like fuel economy

Ford says that it plans to roll out 4-clyinder, V6 and V8 gasoline engines that will deliver diesel-like fuel economy. In what it calls “twin-force” technology Ford will add two turbochargers to the gasoline engines.
According to Derrick Kuzak, VP for global product development, the technology will deliver diesel-like fuel economy. Twin-force engines also will use gasoline direct injection, which increases power, Kuzak said at a press event here.
The first car to get the twin-force technology will be the upcoming Lincoln MKS sedan due in 2008.
Kuzak also said that Ford is planning a power shift transmission, a six-speed automatic that combines features of a manual with an automatic, and variable displacement V-8 engines.
Well it’s one step closer to getting more diesel variants of cars to the US.
