Audi picks Hungary for A3 convertible production
The Audi A3 Convertible is already confirmed by Claus Haverkamp, Head of Body Structure Development at Audi. Today, Audi has announced that it has picked its Gyor plant in Hungary to produce its A3 Convertible from 2008.
“The Gyor (production) site (in western Hungary) has excelled in the production of premium vehicles during recent years … therefore it is optimally suited for the assembly of a new model alongside the Audi TT Coupe and the TT Roadster,” Audi said in a statement.
The Gyor plant, which launched vehicle assemly in 1998, started building the first generation of the Audi TT. This year it plans to manufacture over 50,000 TT units, up from 23,675 last year.
The A3 convertible is expected to make its debut at next year”s Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale in the summer of 2008 just in time for you to drop your top (your car”s top). The A3 Convertible will compete with the upcoming BMW 1-Series convertible which will be launched a few months after the coupe’s debut.
