2009 Audi A2 to be a CO2 friendly subcompact car

Audi will join the many auto makers that are quickly adding greener models to their lineups. Due to the European CAFE enforcing strict CO2 emissions standards, Audi will look to build a smaller, more fuel-efficient car.

Audi hasn’t done anything with the A2 since 2005, when the last few cars rolled off the line at the Neckarsulm plant in July 2005. Well now the Audi A2 is back to help Audi fight off pressure from new CO2 emissions standards. According to MotorTrend, management at Audi has worked out a strategy for the 2009 A2.

Audi will begin marketing the 2009 Audi A2 as straightforward subcompact car with mass appeal. The car will use Volkswagen’s subcompact platform from the Polo with gasoline engines ranging from a 1.2 liter to a 1.8 liter. Diesel engines will follow.
