While they may not be hybrids, these 5 cars get you the close to hybrid level fuel economy. Honda, Toyota and Nissan dominated most of the list while Hyundai, Mazda and Kia squeezed there way in. MINI Cooper stands out as the only German made car on the list.

Figures are based on the 2006-2007 combined fuel economy statistics from fueleconomy.gov.

Toyota Yaris: 36 Combined – 34 city / 39 highway
Nissan Versa: 32 Combined – 30 city / 36 highway
MINI Cooper: 33 Combined – 30 city / 37 highway
Honda Civic: 33 Combined – 30 city / 40 highway
Toyota Corolla: 33 Combined – 30 city / 38 highway
Nissan Sentra: 32 Combined – 29 city / 36 highway
Hyundai Accent: 31 Combined – 28 city / 37 highway
Kia Rio: 32 Combined - 29 city / 38 highway
Mazda 3: 31 Combined – 28 city / 35 highway

Note: Starting 2008, Fueleconomy.gov will change their of calculating fuel economy. While their new calculations are up for respective models, we went by their current way of rating since all auto makers use that method.
