No hybrid for next generation Honda Accord - clean diesel on the way

Honda has no plans to introduce a hybrid variant for the next generation Honda Accord when it goes on sale next year. According to a report by Japanese newspaper, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Honda has decided to cancel the Accord hybrid and will replace it with a clean diesel engine.

The only hybrid models Honda will keep in its lineup are the Honda Civic Hybrid and another hybrid-only compact car currently being developed.

The Honda Accord with a clean diesel engine is expected to make its debut in 2009. While there is no official word as of yet, Honda is more than likely to bring the clean diesel 2.2 liter i-CTDi engine to the US.
