GM boosting ad spending for Cadillac STS and DTS

It was reported in early May, that GM may be dropping the Cadillac STS and DTS model from the Cadillac product line. Troy Clarke, President of GM North America, said that instead “you”ll see kind of a smaller Cadillac entry “” something less than the CTS, something around the CTS and something bigger than the CTS.”

Well now GM has increased its ad budget to aggressively market the slow selling STS and DTS model in the second half of 2007. May sales of the Cadillac DTS were down 20.7 percent to 17,981 from a year ago. STS sales were down 18.1 percent to 8,091 while customers await the arrival of the new 2008 Cadillac STS.

While the Escalade sales and SRX sales are strong, GM’s vice president of vehicle sales is not happy with the STS and DTS. “I’m not satisfied with STS and DTS sales, so we’re working on very specific plans to get that back on track.”

The 2008 Cadillac STS will start selling later this summer and will carry Caddy”s new 3.6 liter direct-injection V6 engine that produces 298 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque.

The new 2008 Cadillac CTS sedan will also arrive later this fall.

    I’ve been a cadillac owner since the 80′s and my parents since the 60′s and i’ve never seen the design of the STS and Especially the DTS done so poorly! First of all the Seville line since 1975 has NEVER had vertical tail lamps and the design in general just looks like it was rushed! When I first seen the 1992 Seville STS, The whole car from every angle was just DAMN PRETTY AND MUSCULAR GOOD LOOKING! VERY WELL DESIGNED AUTOMOBILE PERIOD! YOU CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF CUSTOMERS YOUNG AND OLD! THIS WAS SIMPLY THE CAR TO HAVE! IT WAS THE BEST SELLING CAR IN ITS CLASS EVERY YEAR BUT ONE! Then came the 98 version! Took a good look at it but it just wasn’t there! And the most recent one same thing Just wasn’t there! The 2000 deville was breath taking! I MEAN HERES THE FIRST FULL SIZE LUXURY CAR THAT LOOKS LIKE A SPORTS CAR! LOW IN THE FRONT HIGH AND THICK IN THE BACK WITH THOSE 17 INCH WHEELS WITH THOSE THICK AND PRETTY ELECTROSTATIC TAIL LAMPS THAT JUST CATCHES YOUR EYE WHEN YOU PUT ON THE BRAKES! AND AT NIGHT THEY TURN VERTICAL AT THE ENDS! YOU HAD IT GOING ON FOR A WHILE! THE NEW DTS! FIRST OF ALL NEVER HAVE A CHRYSLER GUY DESIGN GENERAL MOTORS FLAGSHIP CAR! NOBODY THAT I KNOW OF THAT HAS THE LAST DEVILLE LIKES THOSE DAMN CHRYSLER NEW YORKER TAIL LAMPS! IT JUST SEEMS THAT YOU PEOPLE GET IT RIGHT AND THEN MESS IT UP BIG TIME!!!!!!! YOU GOT TO GET OUT AND TALK TO THE CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE YOUR EXISTING PRODUCTS AND GET THEIR ADVICE ON NEW PRODUCTS BEFORE THEY COME OUT LIKE YOU DID THE NEW ESCALADE! WE WOULD OF TOLD YOU RIGHT AWAY ABOUT THOSE TAIL LAMPS ON BOTH CARS! THEN WHEN THEY DONT SELL WELL YOU WANT TO CANCEL THEM! JUST LIKE MERCEDES BENZ AND BMW, THEY MAKE DAMN SURE THOSE CARS ARE PRETTY BEFORE THE PUBLIC SEES THEM! AND LAST OF ALL YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN PEOPLE! JUST BUILD GOOD AND PRETTY CARS! TOYOTA SELLS THE CAMRY AND HONDA THE ACCORD JUST LIKE CADILLAC HAD THE DEVILLE! ALL OF A SUDDEN LIKE BMW AND BENZ YOU PEOPLE ARE NAMING CARS G8′S AND G6′S AND DTS’S AND STUFF LIKE THAT. BE YOUR OWN PEOPLE!
