No more 125 mpg Prius: Toyota delays use of lithium-ion battery

According to a Japanese newspaper, Toyota is going to delay the use of lithium-ion batteries in the next generation of the Toyota Prius due to safety concerns.

While lithium-ion batteries will offer many positive advantages, Toyota is not confident about replacing them with the nickel-metal battery pack used in current Toyota Prius. The company has been pretty cautious due to recent recall rates and questionable quality issues.

Interestingly, the news from Japan comes right after Lithium Technology Corporation yesterday that it has produced a new battery that allows the Toyota Prius  a range of 125 miles per gallon.

Well Toyota, get it together and give us the 125 mpg Prius.
