Ford cancels new Focus RS plans

According to sources of AutoExpress, Ford has cancelled plans to replace the original Ford Focus RS that was to arrive in late 2008 due to CO2 emissions concerns. A customer who deposited money for the car 18 months ago, was surprised when his money was refunded. The dealership told him that the project has been abandoned on environmental grounds.

“It’s worth bearing in mind that it’s not the green issue which is driving this decision – cars have to be profitable. While Britain is the home of RS, there’s not enough interest across other markets for us to earn the kind of money that’s going to give the vehicle a green light,” Ford spokesperson told AutoExpress.

Nonetheless, RS versions of the MkIII may be in the works for 2010.
