Next generation BMW X3 SUV to be built in the US

According to German newspaper Financial Times Deutschland, the next generation BMW X3 will be built at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. BMW’s CEO, Norbert Reithofer, stated that he wants production at the Spartanburg plant to rise from 105,000 to 200,000 units in order to protect itself against fluctuating exchange rates.

When the next generation BMW X3 begins production at the Spartanburg plant, it will be built alongside the new and upcoming X6, X5 and the Z4 models.

Let’s hope BMW beefs up the X3 a little in order to hold its territory in the luxury compact SUV segment, as the Audi Q5 and the Mercedes-Benz ML are on their way.
