Deport it - Import it: Honda Civic Si Coupe vs Honda Civic Type R

Okay so we’re starting a new feature on eGMCarTech called “Deport it – Import it.” Basically, here you get to dream of trading any lousy car you see on American highways for a foreign one. And to kick it off, we’re asking you if you’d like to trade the 2007 Honda Civic Si Coupe for the 2007 Honda Civic Type R.

Earlier this week, Australia became the first non-European market to get the Honda Civic Type R, so why not us? Our 2007 Honda Civic Si Coupe has a 2.0L 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 197 horsepower. The European 2007 Honda Civic Type R 2.0L 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 201 horsepower. Okay, so it’s not that big of a difference, but just look at the two. The Civic Type R is SO much more sexier than our Civic Si Coupe.

Let your voice be heard. Vote below.

who the hell voted to keep the regular si? just asking and alittle angry cause i cant understand

  • jbrav

I own a “regular” si coupe, and the car is sexy, has great performance, and is very well equipped….not to mention that a hatchback sux, one of those looks that only a mother could love kind of thing….i would have to see this car on american soil for 4 more horsepower? spare me…

That “TYPR R” Looks ALOT like the pervios gen si which was somewhat awfull. Also ppl look at the landscapes shown in the pics of the type r vs the si… Look like there might have been a little bias already you think?? PICS of the si here don’t do it justice, they look dons better in real life. I have a 2007 Civic si sedan and I would think twice about owning this TYRE R over mine. The interior looks pretty neat and there will always be those who prefer hatchbacks. To each there own!

All comments are true, yes the pictures are better for the Type r but you have to admit that if you look past the fancy pics, both the hatch and the coupe are comparably equiped. I like hatches, i have to admis, but i drove the new coupe and i expected more, when i went to spain and test drove the type R it was better in handling, power (must be the difference in weight more than anything else), and especially styling. Come on, the type r even has integrated exhaust in the rear bumper (DUAL!!)… and chrome… im getting me one

How about instead of importing the Type R intended for the UK, we import the JDM Type R? 222 BHP with improved suspension, chassis, etc. and a dead sexy front end. It has a lot more to offer over the USDM Si. For a picture check out:

I’d trade my 07 Si Coupe for one of those anyday!

That is ridiculous! If we can have an Si with almost the same engine as the Type R, then why the world Honda doesn't simply stop producing Si models and start building Type Rs for us, in Canada ans U.S.A.??

I hope the reason is not because the safety stuff isn't high enough for America because in this case, we're in trouble, my friends!

Personally, I'd trade the Si for the Type R, even for 4 HP's :-D
