It was reported last week that Adrian Hallmark, boss of Volkswagen in the US, said that the new Volkswagen Scirocco will not be coming to the US since it would detract sales from the GTI. “The GTI is iconic “” it”s as strong a name as the Beetle,” Hallmark says. “It is economically suicidal for us to risk the sales volume and the potential for GTI,” said Hallmark.
But now AutoWeek is reporting that the Volkswagen Scirocco may show up in the US afterall. According to Volkswagen spokesman Hans-Gerd Bode, Volkswagen has huge plans for the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, so look for Winterkorn’s decision on the Scirocco for US to come by then.
