Ford dropping the 2.0 liter engines in the Mondeo?

To meet new CO2 emissions standards, some auto makers will be dropping the 2.0 liter petrol engine in their larger cars and Ford is the first company to take action. Ford has revealed plans to launch a 1.6 liter turbo engine to replace the 2.0 and 2.3 liter engines found in the new 2007 Ford Mondeo.

“We can get similar power, torque and performance with much reduced carbon dioxide emissions,” said Jens Ludmann, Ford”s head of development.

As compared to the 158 horsepower you can get from the 2.3 liter engine, the next round of Mondeos will get a 1.6 liter turbo that will develop 128 horsepower.
