It seems Porsche is realizing the success BMW is having with its compact BMW X3 SUV with 110,000 units sold world-wide in 2006. AutoZeitung is reporting that Porsche is hard at work, planning a compact SUV that will compete with the likes of a BMW X3.

The Porsche and Volkswagen team will also play a part in the development of the compact SUV. Porsche will use the upcoming Audi Q5 as the basis for the compact Porsche SUV and will use its six and eight-cylinder engines from the Porsche Cayenne.
