ZAP releases Concept Sketch of the ZAP-X Crossover SUV

Remember the ZAP-X we reported back in late January of 2007? Well ZAP today showed a sketch of the new ZAP-X Crossover SUV, a high-performance family electric car that it is building in collaboration with Lotus engineering.  The ZAP-X will have in-hub electric motors, delivering 644 horsepower in all wheel drive mode, capable of powering the ZAP-X to a top speed of 155mph. Zap is saying that the car will have a 350 mile range and a recharge time of 10 minutes.

“We believe that the ZAP-X will become the most advanced, most practical and most appealing flagship electric vehicle to date and will revolutionize the industry providing the driver with the enjoyment of a sports car and the practicality of an SUV,” says ZAP CEO Steve Schneider.

    What’s up with Zap-X?

The zapworld.com site is down (today 8/23/07).
Has it been down long? Anyone?
I saw a few blogs, in different places, in which people argue over the existence of batteries, that can actually offer a 350 mile of range and power 4 electric motors to produce 640hp (447419 watts of power), that can be recharged in 10 minutes. I wanted to see if they mention anything about their batteries, but their site is down.
I have seen many articles recently about batteries with large power densities that can be rapidly charged, but none are in mass production. The Tesla site has a tons of info on the process of procuring batteries for their car. Does Zap have the inside line on the new battery technology, or are they betting on the market to catch up before their cars can be delivered?
