Ultimate Aero hoping to break Bugatti’s top speed record of 253 mph

Currently the top speed record for road-legal production cars is held by Bugatti’s EB Veyron 16.4 at 253 mph. Now supercar maker SSC is hoping to top that record with its Ultimate Aero with the testing to begin March 21st, 2007. SSC will use a modified version of its Ultimate Aero that it produced with MKM Racing on closed 12 mile stretch on Nevada’s Highway 93. The Ultimate Aero to be used in testing will have a 6.3 liter V8 engine that will produce 1,183 horsepower.
The car has already proved itself while undergoing testing at NASA’s Langley, Virginia facility, where the car reached speeds of 273 mph. SSC claims that the car can do 0-60 mph in 2.78 seconds. We’ll see how it goes on March 21st.
