BMW confirms X6 production in Spartanburg

While details were a bit vague, we reported back in January that BMW is preparing their South Carolina assembly line to build the X6. But today, CEO, Norbet Reithofer officially confirmed with Forbes that one of the two new models, the BMW X6, will be built at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

He told Forbes that production level is expected to be at more than 200,000 unites per year. The new BMW X6 will join the Z4 roadster and the X5 in Spartanburg. The BMW X6 will have a sportier design and alignment, and will be way more aggressive than the BMW X5. Expect it to hit dealerships in early 2008.

As far as I know, BMW is expected to use the most powerful engines from the X3 and X5 series including the new 3.0 liter diesel bi-turbo delivering 286 HP and the 367 HP 4.8 liter V8 petrol BMW engine parts. Some time later a turbo V8 engine delivering 420 HP will provide the X6 with even more performance, thus another serious rival against Porsche will be on the road from next year forward.
