First Mercedes-Benz hybrid to debut in 2009

Mercedes-Benz announced today at the Geneva Motor Show that it will launch its first hybrid model in 2009. “In 2009 we will have the first Mercedes-branded hybrid on the market,” Thomas Weber told reporters at the Geneva auto show. He did not say whether it will be a full hybrid or a mild hybrid. Mercedes-Benz will be working with BMW, sharing hybrid technology to produce a hybrid premium car.
Yesterday BMW CEO, Norbert Reithofer, also touched on the subject saying “We will achieve production maturity of these (hybrid) components in 2009.” The premium hybrid cars from DaimlerChrysler and BMW should give the two companies strong turff to compete with Lexus and its popular LS hybrid along with the GS hybrid.
