Say it isn't so: BMW expands MPV project with F3

We reported before that BMW is looking into making vans since the company saw a market for a MPV model to grow by 45 percent between 2005 and 2015. While we thought there would be a longer timeframe before BMW made this stupid move, it seems like that time is just around the corner.

BMW had previously confirmed that it working on making a 5-Series based MPV using influence from the X5, but now BMW is saying they are planning another model that will be based on the 3-Series and will be called the F3. The 5-Series based sportvan is expected to be revealed in mid-2009, and if approved the 3-Series based F3 will follow later that year.

The F3 is expected to have a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder engine that produces 235 horsepower.

I would look into one of these. A practical vehicle that is a joy to drive. what is not to love?

Interesting concept, but it does remind me of the recent Ford concepts (C-Max or the new Mondeo Wagon) recently shown in Geneva, though I’m sure the production version of the BMW will be far more avant garde when it’s released. Though the newer BMWs are looking less Bangled up, the Fords have been getting better looking. To bad many of those designs won’t be making it to the US market, where much of Ford designs look more down market compared to the European Ford offerings.
