Each year, the Environmental Protection Agency compiles its Fuel Economy Guide to educate car buyers on fuel-efficient vehicles. The Toyota Yaris tops them all. The following gas-powered, automatic cars and trucks have the best fuel economy within the listed vehicle classes by city/highway:

Toyota Avalon: 22/21

Luxury Cars:

Audi A3: 25/32
Audi A4: 24/32
Lexus IS 250: 24/32

SUVs:

Toyota Rav4: 24/30
Honda CR-V: 23/30

Midsize Cars:

Hyundai Elantra: 28/36
Pontiac Vibe: 29/34
Toyota Matrix: 29/34

Compact Cars:

Toyta Yaris: 34/39

    Great post. It’s nice to see that more and more people are taking fuel economy into account when they’re purchasing their new cars. It’s too bad that it took $3 gas to make everyone aware, but I guess it’s better than nothing!
