Top 8 Crossovers - a breed of half-car, half-SUV

So what are crossovers? We’ve received emails on this before asking us what category’s do crossovers really fit in? Well, its not so much understanding what a crossover really is, its knowing what the benefits of crossovers are knowing they don’t offer as much room as SUVs. Crossovers, to us are basically half-car and half-SUV vehicles that offer better gas-mileage than SUV, better handling and a smoother ride than an SUV while offering just a tad bit more room than your four-door sedan.

Mercedes announces Sports Package for SL-Class

Mercedes-Benz today announced the Sports Package for the new SL-Class. The Sports Package gives the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a more sporties look with 19-inch five-spoke wheels, silver-painted front brake callipers, perforated brake discs at the rear wheels. Inside, the Sports Package gives the SL-Class a silver-colored contrast stitching, perforated leather and aluminium trim. Performance wise the car gets a 7G-TRONIC Sport transmission with steering-wheel shift paddles. Check out the press release for more.

Geneva Preview: Pagani Zonda R revealed

You may have seen a photo leak of the Pagani Zonda R late last week. Now we have official word that the Pagani Zonda R will be at the Geneva Motor Show with a 7.3 liter V12 engine that produces 680 horsepower. The Pagani Zond R street model will have 594 horsepower and a longer wheelbase. Check out the pics after the jump.

Geneva Motor Show: Aplina B3 to debut at Gevena

The Alpina D3 is already out but when is the Alpina B3 coming. Well we have some good news for you BMW/Alpina fans. Alpina’s website has confirmed that ” The new BMW ALPINA B3 saloon will debutat the Geneva Motor Show in march, 2007.” The production for the car will start in October 2007. While we couldn’t find any high-res pics of the car yet, we will bring them to you as soon as we can get our hands on them.

While many of you thought that eXasis concept would be the only thing Rinspeed would be unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show, but the company has teamed up with Saab to give it a more edge look for the 9-5 BioPower, which Saab will also be unveiling at the show. The Saab BioPower 100 Concept showcases the first production-based engine to be optimized for pure bioethanol (E100) fuel. In combining Saab turbocharging expertise with the use of high octane E100 fuel, the cars 2.0-liter enginedevelops 300 horsepower.

Ford announces pricing for the new Mondeo

Ford today announced the UK pricing for the new Mondeo which will be officially launched at the Geneva Motor Show. Lucky UK citizens can pick up the Mondeo starting at £14,995 for the Edge 1.6-litre 110PS five-door and £24,195 for the 2.5T 220PS Titanium X estate. Options on the new Mondeo start at £700 worth of added equipment across the range including: Electronic Stability Program, Thatcham Category 1 Alarm, ISOFIX child-seat fixings, steering wheel controls for the key vehicles technologies, driver’s knee airbag, ‘follow me home’ lighting and the new Ford EasyFuel.

Tramontana to unveil production ready supercar in Geneva

We’re not sure how many of you are familiar with the oddly shaped, two seater ad Tramontana supercar that the company presented the original concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. To us, its a beautiful futuristic looking supercar that was designed by engineers that perviously worked for Volkswagen, BMW and Lamborghini. Now that’s one hell of a team.

Mercedes sets GLK output at 83,000 a year - more info

While Mercedes is still playing hide-and-seek with its new and upcoming compact SUV and still covering it up from spiers, the company has reportedly set output of the the upcoming GLK at 83,000 per year, reports Automotive News. Since the BMW X3 has already had a 4 year headstart in this class, Mercedes is wasting no time in making the GLK available to whoever wants to get their hands on it.

Volkswagen working on a small and cheap car

Volkswagen is said to be working on a new small and cheap model for emerging markets like India, Russia and China. The new compact model is expected to cost anywhere between 5,000 to 6,000 Euros. There is no word if Volkswagen will be importing the car to the US, or even sell it in Europe, but is reportedly planning a high-performance mini car that will compete against the MINI Cooper.

Volvo C30 off to a slow start

While Volvo was expecting the new Volvo C30 compact hatchback to be a market leader and expecting record sales, Volvo dealers have been complaining that the new premium hatchback has been invisible to the compact car buyer in the market.

The Volvo C30 was expected to take the European market by storm, competing with cars like the Volkswagen GTI and the BMW 1-Series, but sales of the hatchback have been slow since it hit dealerships in October of 2006.




Ford and Toyota to work together with hybrids

In December of last year, Ford’s new CEO, Alan Mullay met with Toyota’s Chairman, Fujio Cho, in order to discuss possibilities for the two companies to work together in moving forward in the hybrid technology market. Now, in a recent interview with Japan’s Kyodo News, Mullay commented on working with Toyota on developing new environmental technologies that would benefit both companies.

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera unveiled

Lamborghini official unveiled the new Gallardo Superleggera, a light weight version of the Gallardo that has an increased output of 10 horsepower. The weight/power ratio of the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is only 2.5 kg/hp, which puts it at the top. The V10 530 horsepower engine along with its robotized mechanical ‘e-gear’ gearbox, gives the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera the ability to do 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds.
