Report: BMW 5-Series Diesel in US by 2009

The BMW X5 3.0d with its 3.0 liter direct injection diesel engine is on its way to the United States highways by mid-2008. One of our editors was dropping of their 3-Series for service and asked them about the X5 3.0d, which they confirmed. Then the dealer went on to tell him that the BMW 5-Series diesel will also be arriving to the United States by 2009. United States will get the BMW 530d and the BMW 535d, both which have a inline 6-cylinder engines.

The BMW 530d does 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds with a fuel economy of 42.2 mpg. The BMW 535d, on the other hand, does 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and has a fuel economy of 35.2 mpg.

We expect to see more diesel options offered by BMW, such as the 3-Series diesels, due to the growing market in the United States for fuel efficient vehicles.
