Acura unveiled the anticipated Advanced Sports Car Concept at the Detroit Auto Show where the company stated that the car is a “dynamically styled concept which provides a preview of the design direction for the successor to the Acura NSX.” However, the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept isn’t a direct replacement to the NSX. The beloved Acura NSX that launched in the 1990 was a mid-engine car that made Ferrari shake in its boots because of its better handling and reliability. Honda even lost money on the original NSX.
Now the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept is no mid-engine car and will greatly reduce cost for Honda in its production version. If the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept is what the next NSX will be, the car will have a powerful V10 front engine and rear-wheel-drive based version of Acura”s exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™. The production version of the car will arrive in the 2009 model year.
