With Audi’s huge success with the upcoming Audi R8, Audi is now looking to expand the R line. Even though Porsche has a huge share in the Volkswagen group, Audi seems to stay focused at expanding its sports lineup with a Audi R6, which according to sources, has died down at the moment. Nonetheless, now on the minds of Audi executives is the Audi R4. Engine choices that are being considered for the Audi R4 include the TT’s turbocharged 2.0 liter producing 200 horsepower and a 270 horsepower engine in the upcoming TT-S. A 2.5 liter turbocharged engine is also in the talks that will deliver 350 horsepower.

Timeline for the Audi R4 is scheduled for late 2010 or early 2011 with a convertible variant that will follow like the Audi R8.
