GMC Yukon Hybrid Revealed

GMC launched its upcoming 2008 Yukon Hybrid at the LA Auto Show. The 2008 GMC Yukon hybrid has a Vortec V8 engine (developed in partnership with DaimlerChrysler and BMW) gives the big SUV 25 percent better fuel economy than its standard version. The SUV hybrid features a two-mode system combining cylinder deactivation and hybrid technology allowing the Yukon Hybrid to adapt to city driving or highway driving. The 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid will be in dealerships at the end of 2007. Guess GMC couldn’t stand to stay out of the SUV Hybrid race. GM will also be launching the Chevrolet Taho Hybrid in 2007.

“The 2-mode hybrid system has the flexibility to improve fuel efficiency across a range of vehicles,” Stephens said. “For example, in 2003, we introduced the 2-mode hybrid system for transit buses. In 2007, the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon 2-mode full-size SUVs will debut, followed by the Vue Green Line 2-mode in 2008.”

My question is what type of miledge will it get when loaded down with a trailer and boat. If they can hit the mid 20′s in hwy gas milege I will be very impressed.

It’s just too damn big. So is the highlander hybrid for that matter. I think toyota really blew it their. If they had hybridized the Rav4 they would’ve had another big winner….

I bought a 4WD Ford Escape Hybrid and it’s fantastic. We get an honest 30 MPG in mixed city and 65 MPH highway driving.

If I’m in a hurry it will cruise very happily at 80 MPH and still have power to pass.

It’s at least 50% better milage than my old 4-Runner.

The Yukon SUV misses the point. A 25% improvement on 11-16 MPG is nothing to get excited about. They may as well hybridize a hummer. These things are obscene!
