Mercedes is in the process of developing a small SUV, positioned below the GL-Class, to compete with rivals such as the BMW X3 and Acura RDX. Most likely to be called the Mercedes GLK, the small SUV will be launched in Europe in 2008 and will reach North American markets in 2009. While the US is slowly moving away from large SUVs, Mercedes is slowly losing market to small SUVs like the BMW X3. The Mercedes GLK will be designed closely to the GL-Class and will most likely carry a four-cylinder engine.
