VW Drops Diesel Models for 2007

VolkswagenVolkswagen in America will be dropping 3 successful diesel models in 2007 after facing tough federal emission standards that take effect this fall. VW will be dropping the diesel versions of the Jetta, Golf and the Beetle since the United States has now set new limits for nitrogen oxide emissions. The VW Diesel models accounted for 22.7% of VW sales in the US. We sure hate to see them go after we fell in love with the 700 miles you get out of a Diesel Jetta.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS Unleashed

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche unleashed the 911 GT3 RS today, a car that known for its track capabilities but now meets the requirements for road use. The six-speed 911 GT3 pushes 415 horsepower and does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. The car also pushes 0-124 in 13.3 seconds. The Porsche 911 GT3 will be available in October.

Audi to Build R8

Next year that Audi Quattro unit will develop and launch the $100,000 plus R8 sports car. The R8 will give Audi Quattro a chance to make some noise against the BMW M and Mercedes-Benz AMG models. The second-generation RS4 will be going on sale in the United States this June with a price tag of $68,820. While the R8 will go into production next year there are no details on when it will be launched in the United States, the specs or for how much. The only thing we know as of right now is that Audi is investing $36.2 million dollars in the R8 and will share components with the all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo. The design of the R8 is based on Audi’s Le Mans Quattro concept car shown at the 2003 Frankfurt auto show.

Audi Cofirms A5 - but Will it be BMW 6 Series Killer?

Audi A5

has confirmed that it will start producing the Audi A5 and is expected to go on sale in mid-2007. According to AutoWeek magazine the Audi A5 will be a large coupe with an engine similar to the Audi A6. The current A6 mostly competes with the BMW 5 Series, so the question still remains of the A5 will be a strong competitor to the BMW 6 Series. The shape of the Audi A5 will be based on the Audi Nuvolari concept design.

Range Rover to Receive an Upgrade

Range Rover will recieve an upgrade later this quarter getting a V8 diesel engine and a new interior. The upgrades are expected to be made later this quarter. Currently the Ranger Rover has a regular V8 engine that pushes 305 horsepower and a supercharged V8 engine that pushes 400 horsepower. No details on price change.

BMW Z6 will succeed the Z8

BMW is planning a high-end sports car that will compete with the Mercedes-Benz SL. Supposedly BMW will be building off its popular and low-volume produced Z8 and calling it the Z6. There were originally only 5703 BMW Z8s produced, which ended production in 2003. The new BMW Z6 will supposedly be the same size as the 6 series and will borrow the engine and other mechanical components from the 5 and the 6. It will be designed much like the BMW Z8 but will be priced way below then the $130,000 Z8. It is also rumored that BMW will be dropping the Z4 and replacing it with the Z2 creating a strong three model Z line including the Z6, Z2 and the Z M coupe.

2007 Land Rover LR2 Photos Leaked

Pictures of the 2007 Land Rover LR2 have leaked online from a promotional brochure. The SUV will be known has the Freelander 2 in Europe and is expected to be shown in July at the British Motor Show. There are no official specs on the Land Rover LR2 as of yet.

Audi to Start Q5 SUV Production

Audi said some 1,700 workers will be involved in the production of the Q5 SUV that will join the Audi Q7 in its upcoming SUV lineup. Audi will be investing $383 million in the production of the Audi Q5 and expects to start building the SUV in the beginning of 2008. No dates on availability or specs as of yet. The Audi Q7 will be Audi’s first SUV and will sport a V6 or a V8 engine that will push 280 horsepower and 350 horsepower respectively. The pricing on the V8 Q7 is expexted to start around $50,000

Aston Martin Rapide to Become a Reality

Ulrich Bez, boss of Aston Martin, has confirmed that the Aston Martin Rapide concept will finally become a reality and go into production. The four-door sedan will hit showrooms before Porsche’s Panamera, which is due out in mid 2009. Aston Martin will producing 300 to 500 of the Rapide model and will have a 5.9 liter V12 engine that will push up to 500 horse power. Aston Martin is obviously not accepting any orders yet. Hold your horses. Watch out Panamera.

MINI Cross Country Trip!

MINI USA is planning a “MINI takes the States” trip, a cross country rally for MINI Cooper owners. The trip will be 3,123 miles and starts in August at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races in California. The trip will last two weeks and will end at the Lime Rock Vintage Festival in Connecticut. So if you’re a MINI owner with nothing better to do in August, go put some miles on your car!
